Typical Questions Asked by Interviewers
Be prepared one way to prepare is to give some
advance thought to how you will respond to common interview
questions, such as:
- The interviewer is looking for a specific characteristic,
trait, or competency with every question. Never take
a question lightly.
- What has been your most important professional accomplishment?
- What do you know about our company?
- Why do you want to work here?
- Why are you looking to change positions?
- Tell me about yourself.
- Why did you change jobs when you did (for every
job change)?
- Tell me what you consider to be your strengths
and what you consider to be your weaknesses?
- What salary are you looking for?
- What do you like most about your current job (or
manager)? What do you like the least?
- Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
- What is the best thing that your manager will say
about you? What is the worst?
Interviewing Keys
Needs Analysis Clarify their specific needs requirements
for this position:
- Could you tell me about the growth plans for the
company (department)?
- What is the greatest challenge I will face in this
position?
- What skills do you feel are most important to be
successful in this position?
Presenting Your Skills, Strengths and Accomplishments
- The interviewer is looking for a specific characteristic,
trait, or competency with every question. Dont
take a question lightly.
- Respond with - This is very interesting. Let me
tell you about my background and what I have done
as a professional that has prepared me so well for
this position
- Make certain your background flows. Be aware of
your past decision making processes. (The interviewer
will be!)
Uncovering & Overcoming Objections
- Get the concerns and objections out of the interviewer.
Overcome them by selling your background.
- Simply ask these questions: "What concerns
or questions do you have about my background?"
and "What can I clarify for you about my background?"
Overcoming Weaknesses
- If your experience is limited, express your desire
to learn. Show how your interest and education relate
to the position and be prepared to provide examples
of your ability to take initiative and learn quickly.
- Overcoming a weakness: "Mr. Interviewer, I
don't have that specific experience, but I am bringing
the following skills to the job . . . (give examples)"
Be Prepared to Ask a Few Questions
- How would you describe the management and culture
of the company?
- What are the most challenging and interesting aspects
of working on this product
- What lead you to the decision to join this company?
If You Want the Position, Say So Follow Through
- "I am very excited about this opportunity and
would like to proceed directly to the next step. What
is the next step of the interview process?"
Follow Up with a Thank You Note
- Follow up with a thank you card or letter. This
is a good way to stay fresh in the mind of the employer
and to demonstrate your business etiquette. It also
gives you an opportunity to mention anything you forgot
to mention in the interview, and to reaffirm your
interest in the position.
Follow Up with Your Consultant
- Directly after the interview has concluded, call
your Consultant to discuss how the interview went
while it is still fresh in your mind. We will then
follow up with the company on your behalf.
